SPinance is transforming the game by giving athletes the financial tools and opportunities they need to win not just on the field, but in life."
I’m glad you’re here. SPinance began with a personal transition that reshaped how I think about sports, finance, and opportunity.
I played football at Virginia Tech until I injured my foot, an experience that forced me to confront life after sports earlier than expected. In the process, I found my “footing” in banking and financial services, where I developed professional experience across public and private institutions, including the Federal Reserve Board, the U.S. Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Industrial Bank, and a global financial institution. These roles shaped my perspective on financial systems, regulation, and the long-term consequences of financial decision-making.
My professional and academic work now sits at the intersection of sports and finance. I currently serve on the board of directors of the Virginia Council of Economics Education, and I am in the final stages of completing my doctoral dissertation, which examines teachers’ experiences delivering financial literacy education in Virginia. This work has sharpened my focus on how financial knowledge is taught, applied, and translated into real-world outcomes.
SPinance emerged from these combined experiences—as a former student-athlete navigating an unexpected career transition and as a financial professional working within complex financial and institutional systems.
Meet “Zo”, Founder & CEO
Origins of SPinance
SPinance was born from the idea of merging sports and finance into a single, intuitive framework that highlights their impact on individuals, institutions, and communities. Recognizing that sports have always been intertwined with finance—through team revenues, athlete earnings, and local economic development—our founders saw an opportunity to address a growing need. The rise of NIL opportunities has made financial literacy and education, contract negotiation, and professional development more critical than ever, yet athletes often struggle with these areas despite their exceptional talent.
With athletes now receiving significant compensation at younger ages, there is an urgent need to introduce financial education earlier in their careers to ensure long-term stability and success. At the same time, sports organizations face increasingly complex financial landscapes that require specialized expertise. This insight inspired the creation of SPinance: a platform that empowers athletes, supports organizations, and drives community impact, serving as a resource hub, thought leader, and strategic guide for navigating the evolving sports-finance ecosystem.
Now, fully launched, SPinance is the premier platform at the intersection of sports and finance, dedicated to empowering athletes, teams, and communities with the knowledge, tools, and guidance to thrive both on and off the field. We provide financial literacy education, brand management support, and executive coaching designed to prepare student-athletes for long-term success and sustainable impact.
